Aetos SEO
Glossary · the four letters that matter

SEO · AEO · AIO · GEO

Four acronyms, four different judges of your site. Here is what each one means, in plain English — and what decides whether it shows you.

SEO Search Engine Optimization

Ranking in the classic Google results — the ten blue links.

The original discipline: titles, meta descriptions, internal links, crawlability, page speed, and backlinks that help Google rank your pages. Yoast and Rank Math are built for this layer. It is still the foundation — but it is no longer the whole game.

In Aetos: Aetos audits the technical SEO layer (indexability, canonicals, sitemaps, redirects, Core Web Vitals) without writing the content for you.

AEO Answer Engine Optimization

Being the answer in featured snippets, voice results, and "People Also Ask".

Optimizing so a search engine can lift a direct answer from your page — the snippet at the top, the voice-assistant reply, the expandable question box. It rewards clear structure, question-and-answer formatting, and well-marked-up content.

In Aetos: Aetos checks the structure, headings, and schema that make a page answer-ready, and flags where an answer engine would struggle to extract one.

AIO AI Optimization

Getting cited by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and other AI assistants.

When someone asks an AI assistant a question, does it pull from — and credit — your site? AIO is about citation readiness: clean content, machine-readable structure, an llms.txt file, and the trust signals models use when they decide whose words to quote.

In Aetos: Aetos scores how citation-ready your pages are and bundles the findings as JSON you can hand to ChatGPT or Claude for a prioritized fix plan you review and apply.

GEO Generative Engine Optimization

Showing up inside Google AI Overviews and other generative results.

The newest layer: Google (and others) now generate an answer at the top of the page that blends multiple sources. GEO is about being one of those blended sources — which depends on clarity, structured data, and topical authority more than on classic ranking tricks.

In Aetos: Aetos evaluates the signals that make a page eligible to appear inside a generative answer, separately from its classic Google rank.

Heads up: across the wider industry, "GEO" is often used as a synonym for AIO (Generative Engine Optimization in general). On Aetos we use it specifically for Google AI Overviews readiness, and score AIO separately.
